MADISON, Wisc. - For multiple years in a row, a local librarian has received recognition for outstanding support of reading education, Renaissance Learning has announced.
Donna Tracy, K-8 media coordinator in the Keokuk School District, was awarded Reading Renaissance Model Library Recertification by the Madison, Wis., based company, for three Keokuk elementary schools: George Washington, Wells-Carey and Hawthorne.
Model Library certification indicates that Tracy's efforts to adopt Reading Renaissance methods have continued to result in measurable increases in student reading performance.
“Donna's continuing commitment to reading and reading practice translates into success for every child,” said Judi Paul, co-chairman of the Board at Renaissance Learning.
To receive Reading Renaissance Model Library certification, librarians must document that their practices encourage student access to a wide variety of books, as well as supporting reading practice and self-directed learning. In addition, the librarian must be actively working with individual students to meet Renaissance-recommended standards for reading achievement.
In addition to national recognition, George Washington Elementary School, Hawthorne Elementary School and Wells-Carey Elementary School will receive certificates in recognition of Tracy's achievement.
