Local producers seeking stars for new video
For the Daily Gate City
A locally produced video, ‘Throw Me Away,' has been distributed on the Internet via the video site Youtube.com among others, and has been downloaded by more than 10,000, according to online tracking.
Shot in and around Keokuk in high definition, the video tells a story of lives intersecting, quite literally.
Recently director Carl Johnson of Keokuk, offered a link to the video to Korn frontman Jonathon Davis via e-mail, to which the rockstar replied on New Year's, “I loved that video, good job bro.”
The Grammy Award winning band is often credited with creating the nu metal genre and, along with other bands of the time, inspiring a wave of nu metal, alternative metal and rap metal bands through the mid 1990s and early 2000s. Davis supplies the vocals.
The locally produced video for the Korn song “Throw Me Away” from their 2005 album “See You on the Other Side” may be unofficial, but it caught the eye of the band's vocalist.
“I did the video as a piece for my reel and thought it would be nice if the band saw it,” Johnson said, “but I was blown away to get a response from Jonathon Davis, especially one that praised the video. Korn is my favorite band so this for me was the ultimate way to start the new year. I was already planning another video, but this cemented it.”
The next video is for the Korn track “Love Song” from the band's most recent studio album, but the subject matter doesn't reflect the title. Love Song has little to do with love.
“The new video will be less drama, more horror,” Johnson said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
The video's story involves a woman coming back from the dead to inflict justice on the man who killed her. “Love Song” will film in and around Keokuk through Monday.
Associate producers include Brent Selvog and Jimmy Johnson of Keokuk who are helping provide locations and logistics.
“My hope for this one is that the band will make it official,” Johnson said. “It would be great to see it on TV or on an official DVD.”
Even without official distribution, “Love Song” is certain to find an audience on the Internet, Johnson said.
River City HD is looking for a woman 18-25 years old to play the female lead, a male age 30-40 to play the male lead and a woman age 40-50 to play a supporting role.
The roles will not require spoken dialogue and no prior acting experience is required. Anyone interested must be dedicated and willing to take direction. Once a cast is chosen the production will be scheduled around actors' work schedules and weather. There is no pay but gas will be compensated as well as food and drinks on set.
Any interested parties should e-mail a recent photo to cjhollywood@earthlink.net or contact Johnson at 323-683-5318 or Brent Selvog at 319-795-8676.
River City HD is owned by Johnson and exclusively produces high definition video content. River City HD is equipped with film-industry standard equipment as well as a state-of-the-art HD camera and editing bay.
