A new Women's Health Center in Keokuk was shown off to the public Wednesday.
Located at 1425 Morgan St., the facility serves the gynecological and obstetrical needs of women of all ages and income levels. It also provides prevention, education, testing and treatment.
“We wanted to get everybody here and the exam rooms ready,” said community relations director Amy Conlee. “Everything has fallen into place the past three weeks.”
Remodeling of the former Surgical Specialists of Keokuk office started last October.
The staff includes Drs. Robert Lorey and Ted Harris; Stacey Gehle, a certified nurse midwife; and Billy Jo Alderton, a nurse practitioner. Four nurses and two receptionists also work at the Women's Health Center.
“It's very exciting for women in Keokuk to have four choices (of physicians) under one roof,” said Harris, a Sioux City native who practiced in Charlottsville, Va., before returning to Iowa in November 2006. “We can cover the whole spectrum of women's health issues.”
Harris received his medical training at Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He completed his residency at the University of Virginia. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Lorey got his medical training at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines and served his residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Ill. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Gehle obtained her registered nursing degree from Southeastern Community College, her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama and her master of science degree in midwifery from Philadelphia University.
Alderton received her RN and BSN degrees from Blessing Rieman College of Nursing, Quincy, Ill., and a ARNP-certificate from the Family Planning Council of Iowa.
Besides the reception and registration area, the Women's Health Center has four offices, eight examination rooms, one treatment room, a break room and a lab.
The facility is open from 8 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Women's Health Center is affiliated with the Tri-State Medical Group and Community Health Centers of Southeastern Iowa.
