Quincy University's theatre department presents the musical “Oliver!” in MacHugh Theatre (lower level, Francis Hall). Showtime for all shows is 7 p.m.
“Oliver!” is a rendition of the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. The creator behind this masterpiece is Lional Bart.
Some of the songs in this musical include “Food,” “Pick a Pocket,” “Oom Pah Pah” and “Where is Love?” “Oliver!” is directed by Connie Phillips, QU lecturer in theatre. Warsaw High School grad Derek Hauk plays Fagin.
Tickets cost $8 for adults and $6 for students. To purchase tickets for “Oliver!” call the MacHugh Theatre box office at 217-228-5407.
Saturday
Keokuk High School will hold prom starting at 8 p.m. at First Christian Church and continuing through after prom at Wright Fieldhouse at KHS.
This year's prom theme is “Rooftop Romance.”
After prom starts at 12:30 a.m. Sunday with the theme “Hollywood Nights.”
Professor John Hallwas will present a lecture and slide presentation at the Hancock County Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. in Safford Auditorium in Hamilton, Ill.
The subject of Hallwas' presentation will be “Desperadoes: Notorious Lawbreakers of Early Illinois.”
Guest Conductor James Hannon will lead the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, the Quincy Symphony Chorus, and vocalists Terence Kelly and Phyllis Robertson in a performance of Italian inspired works at 7:30 p.m. in Quincy Junior High School's Morrison Theater.
“Viva l'Italia” will feature works by Rossini, Verdi, and Respighi, among others.
Concert tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at Wild Birds Unlimited, 3502 Broadway Rd, Quincy. Prices are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens. Children under age 18 will be admitted free and are encouraged to attend.
The grand prize drawing for the second annual QSOA Raffle will be held at the end of the concert. Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance from any orchestra, chorus, Encore! or board member or by calling 217-222-2856.
