Boltz finishes sixth at Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Keokuk's Lakyn Boltz finished sixth at the Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals in the girls 10-11 age division Saturday in Springfield, Mass.
Boltz was the only national champion to return to this year's event. She won the girls 8-9 age division last year.
Boltz was tied for first at the end of the first round. She made 9-of-10 free throws.
Boltz made her first free throw in her final set of 15, but missed the second. She went on to make 10 free throws in the final round to finish with 19 made free throws.
Jaymie Bernbeck of Garden City, Kan., won the 10-11 age division with 23 made free throws. Gabrielle Lavinio of Dalton, Mass., was second with 22, and McKenzie Stanford of Ripley, Okla., won a shoot-off for third. She tied Alexis Diaz of Sunrise, Fla., with 21 made free throws. Stanford went 5-for-5 in the shoot-off, while Diaz made just 4-of-5.
Maggie Goltz of Falls City, Neb., won the girls 8-9 age division by making 24-of-25 free throws, and Kindsey Guzek of Thief River Falls, Minn., won the girls 12-13 age division with 23-of-25 free throws.
