Halloween tradition continues Friday & Saturday in Nauvoo
For the Daily Gate City
NAUVOO, Ill. - “Boo-tiful” Nauvoo's Halloween Festival weekend is this Friday and Saturday.
The Nauvoo Grand Bed & Breakfast will host “An Affair to Dismember,” a unique mystery dinner party, at 6 p.m. Friday, to kick off the weekend.
The streets of Nauvoo will illuminate with more than 300 hand-carved jack-o-lanterns Saturday.
The highlight of the annual festival are the jack-o-lanterns that are illuminated along Mulholland Street. The event takes many hours and lots of hands for scooping, scraping and carving to create these works of art in pumpkin; all being accomplished in just a few days.
The pumpkins are delivered on Thursday and sorted, cleaned and prepped for the undertaking. Assembly lines are established with some to scoop, some to design, others to carve; all to be finished and ready to light for their Saturday debut.
