Salvation Army seeks bellringers for kettle-drive

The Salvation Army's annual Christmas Drive will begin Friday, Nov. 16 at Hy-Vee, County Market and Friday, Nov. 23, at Wal-Mart, and continue through Monday, Dec. 24.
Bellringing hours will are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
The funds raised during the Christmas drive are used to help the needy.
Call the Salvation Army at 524-1144 to set up a time, date and location to ring a bell.
Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied at the kettle by a parent.
Awards will be presented at the annual banquet to honor the highest bell ringing totals in several categories. Groups who raise $1,000 or more will become a member of the $1,000 Club.
“The greatest reward is the reward you will feel when you sit down on Christmas Eve, knowing that you also have helped make it a joyous Christmas for others,” said Maj. Jim Amick.
Award winners in 2007 included: business, Ameren UE; church, Trinity United Methodist, Keokuk; individual, Lorraine Lowenberg; community organization, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Association; school, Wells-Carey Kid Zone; and service club, Kiwanis Club of Keokuk.
The Labor Temple and Rotary International, both of Keokuk, were inducted into the $1,000 Club.
