New tax service opens

Jackson Hewitt Tax Service has opened at 401 Main St., Suite 1, Keokuk.
Jackson Hewitt, Inc., the franchisor, is a Virginia corporation that was incorporated Dec. 24, 1985. Jackson Hewitt Inc. and its wholly-owned subsidiary Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, have operated and offered franchises for Jackson Hewitt Tax Service businesses since 1986.
Jackson Hewitt Inc. is a subsidiary of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc., a Deleware corporation, incorporated on Feb. 20, 2004, which has its securities traded publicly on the New York Stock Exchange.
Debbie Neally, owner of the Keokuk Jackson Hewitt office, bought an Iowa franchise in July. Neally graduated from Quincy University in Quincy, Ill., with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting in 1994. She became a certified public accountant on Feb. 6, 2004.
She has more than 11 years of banking experience, including six years conducting a bank's holding company financial reporting and wire transfer duties and five years as internal bank auditor. She also has more than three years' experience in financial accounting and payroll work.
She also worked for an accounting/computer service as a small business account representative and payroll manager. Her duties included financial statement preparation, fixed assets and general ledger setup, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processing with W-2 preparation. She is in the process of becoming an IRS enrolled agent.
Her other duties include office manager, audit and compliance manager, and tax preparer.
Devan Neally is marketing manager and tax preparer for the new Main Street business. She recently graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of arts degree and entrepreneurship business certification. Her work experience includes serving as the manager of a country club swimming pool, performing lifeguard duties, processing property tax payments, marketing research and working in the retail sector.
Garrick Batley is a part-time tax preparer who is in his final year at Upper Iowa University and working toward a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and worked four years in industry.
