Bradley honored with Child at Heart Award
For the Daily Gate City
Each November, the Association for Iowa's Children selects one individual from within the state to receive the Child at Heart Award.
The recipient of this award must demonstrate a passion for furthering the well being of young children and their families and be identified as a champion for children, implementing innovative approaches to support children on a local, regional or statewide level.
Each of the 58 Community Empowerment Areas in Iowa is allowed to nominate one person to be considered for this honor.
The Lee and Van Buren Community Empowerment Board nominated Delores Bradley of Keokuk.
Bradley has served as a “champion for children” in the Keokuk community for many years. She is actively involved in numerous outreach efforts to ensure the well being of local children and their families.
Her extensive list of community involvement includes volunteering at the HOPE Center to ensure families have access to food, clothing and shelter, providing assistance to teen mothers, wrapping gifts for children and the elderly during Project Christmas, volunteering at the Inertia Boys and Girls Center, involvement with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and assisting with the United Way campaign and Habitat for Humanity.
She also is actively involved with the New Bethel Church, serving as a founding member.
Bradley serves as a referral source for the local school district when children are identified as in need of items such as coats, shoes and hats. Her passion for people is evident through her generous donations of time and money.
She was recognized by the Lee and Van Buren Community Empowerment Board on Nov. 8.
