Pedersen to seek re-election in '08
For the Daily Gate City
Lee County Auditor Anne Pedersen today formally declared her candidacy for the office of county auditor on the Democratic ticket in the June primary.
In announcing her re-election bid, Pedersen said, “I am proud of my long record of serving Lee County citizens in a responsive and effective manner. My dedicated and professional staff has been invaluable in assisting me in meeting the many challenges local government has seen in the last few years, and we look forward to strengthening and streamlining our services in order to continue that user friendly service at a reasonable cost to the taxpayer.”
Pedersen said she and her staff have implemented several things to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the auditor's office.
“This office is responsible for many and varied duties including budgeting and accounting procedures, mapping changes in real estate titles, computing taxable valuations and tax levies for budgeting purposes, the conducting of voter registration and all elections, and for financial checks and balances to ensure the integrity of county budgets, taxes and funds,” she said.
“We are justifiably proud of our record having kept the office up to date in budgeting and accounting procedures, working with other county offices in the implementation of new systems and services and working with other county office-holders and departments.
“Lee County budgeting requires an experienced auditor to administer the duties of the office during lean years while periods of financial growth and development in our county also require fiscal discipline and the will to check unneeded expansion in the budgeting process. I have experience in both of these situations and the ability to adjust to them,” Pedersen added. “I am offering that experience with my candidacy in 2008.”
Pedersen has been a resident of Lee County for 32 years. She was raised on a family farm in Southwest Iowa where her parents still live. Her daughter and grandson live in the Kansas City, Mo., area. She has been an active participant in her community and has served as a member and officer on numerous professional and service boards and commissions.
