Jamie Short enjoys job at KSB Bank

Published: Wednesday, February 20, 2008 11:31 AM CST
Jamie Short lives in Hamilton, Ill. She is the marketing director at KSB Bank in Keokuk.

“I am originally from Keokuk, graduating from Keokuk High School in 1995,” she said.

Short received her AA from Southeastern Community College and bachelor's degree in marketing from the University of Northern Iowa.

“My family and I have recently ‘come home' to the area after living near Fort Dodge for the past seven years,” she said.

What food are you most famous for? My mom's homemade chicken and noodles. It's my favorite meal and I used to make them all the time, but now with little ones I don't have the ability to make meals that take a lot of time.

What kind of music do you enjoy? I'm pretty much a Top 20 pop hits kind of girl. But I like everything except oldies and rock.

Do you have a favorite pet (present or past)? When we lived in Farnhamville, we had a yellow lab named Griffey and a golden retriever named Chloe. I tend to gravitate toward the 100-pound dogs.

Where would you go if you won a trip anywhere in the world and why? It would be fun to go to the Bahamas again. My honeymoon was in Nassau so it holds a special place in my heart, but back then I didn't really understand how much I should appreciate time alone with my husband.

What has been life's most rewarding experience for you? Becoming a wife and mother. I love having a solid, family-centered life. I can't imagine what life would be like without my husband, Jim, and my children.

How many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren do you have? I have two girls, Emma, 2, and Kaitlyn, 7-months old.

What is your least favorite food? I am so picky that I can't even answer that. I don't like most things actually. I have the eating habits of a 7-year old. I don't like vegetables, any kinds of sauces or dressings, I'm plain, plain, plain!

What is your favorite food? Velveeta shells and cheese.

What makes a perfect summer day and how would you spend it if you could, anyway you wanted? A calm, warm day, not too hot, spending time doing anything with Jim and the girls and both of the girls are in a good mood.

Have a favorite sport to do or watch? All who know me would laugh at this question. I'm not much of an athlete, which is the complete opposite of Jim. He's a big time college basketball watcher and therefore, I am too, if I ever want to see him. Go Illini! So that is definitely my favorite sport to watch. And actually I really do like it now that I understand how the sport works. I would be quite embarrassed if he ever got the opportunity to share some of the ridiculous questions I've asked when watching games with him. Since he has been a high school basketball coach for the past eight years I've had to pick up some knowledge along the way, so I know enough to dangerous.

Most memorable moment? This is a toss up between my wedding day and the birth of Emma and Katie. It's too tough to pick one, I'll take the easy way out and say it's a tie.

What do you do for fun? I'm pretty low key, I just spend time with family and friends. I haven't lived in the Keokuk area for 8-9 years, so being newly returned to the area we are still sponging up every moment possible with family and friends that we previously only saw a handful of times throughout the year. After the addition of Kaitlyn we decided that our families were missing out on too many important moments with the girls. We can't get those moments back, so we just took the plunge and turned our lives completely upside down and did it.

What do you like most about yourself? I like being an extrovert and having the ability to assert myself when necessary.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I think I wanted to be a teacher, because I remember playing “school” with my sister, Sarah, all the time. That is odd, because there is no way I could do that now, my husband is a teacher and I see what it's really like now. Kudos to all the teachers out there.

What do you collect? I like Precious Moments figurines. My husband started buying them for me when we first started dating and now I get them for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc. from him and the girls.

Where would you live if you had a choice? Right where I am, which is evident from the whirlwind move we just completed in December. I have never had so many life changes at one time in a six-month period. We had a baby, put our house up for sale, resigned our jobs, accepted new positions, bought a house and moved all of our worldly possessions from July through December. I'm still quite exhausted from all of that activity.

What is your favorite TV show and actor/actress? I'm a reality junkie, and my favorite in the past few years has been “Big Brother” - but there is a new season that just started with all young people that I'm not too excited about. I like the traditional shows they've had the past eight seasons. My favorite actor is Kevin Bacon. He captured my heart in “Footloose!”

What was your favorite subject in school? English.

What was your first job? In 1993 I got a job working in the “Fashion” department at K-Mart in Keokuk. That was my first actual job when I was 16. My first “career” job was sales manager at Younkers in Ames after graduating from college.

What was/is your favorite style/piece of clothing? My favorite piece of clothing is any pair of jeans I own from American Eagle. They are so comfy.

Best word(s) of advice you've received? My Grandma Susie put a slip of paper in my birthday card this year that says “Women Who Behave Rarely Make History.” I love that.

Favorite movie of all time? “Footloose.” It's one of those movies I can't pass up if it's on television. A definite classic in my book.

What is your favorite ethnic food? I don't have one, I'm picky, remember?

How did you meet your spouse (if married)? That first job I had back in 1993 ... he actually worked there too in 1994, although there were no sparks then. My friend Trish and I would always give him grief. He later told me he hated to come to work and see my car outside. I guess it wasn't love at first sight! We met up about five years later and both said “Hey didn't you used to work at K-Mart?” We've been together since.

Person you admire most and why? My husband, Jim. He is a wonderful husband and father. There is a special place in my heart for anyone who can love my girls that much and take care of their family the way he does.

If you had a motto, what would it be? A clever person solves a problem, a wise person avoids it.

What is your most memorable and/or embarrassing food experience? As picky as I am, somehow I was talked into trying oysters when we were at Okaboji a few years ago. I recall them tasting like dill pickles, but no one else would go along with that comparison.

What is your favorite recipe? Hashbrown egg bake.
