School musical will take the stage April 3-5
for the daily gate city
WARSAW, Ill. - Warsaw High School is performing its spring musical, with an original script written by director Shelley Travis, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 3, 4 and 5, in the newly renovated WHS auditorium.
Tickets are $6 and will be available at the school office and at the door.
The performance is set 295 years in the future. The earth has been so ruined humans can no longer inhabit it except within an environmentally controlled dome.
The Luneeyans have offered their friendship - and planet - for humans to live on. Luneeyans are a very peaceful people, says Travis.
“Their planet is similar to earth so the transition for humans will be easy, or so they thought,” she says.
An earthly crew, including Captain Dash Tremont played by Alex Culpepper; Lieutenant Gage Ferguson, played by Rhett Nason; Lieutenant Nerissa, played by Kayla Harrison; Private Bianca, played by Clarissa Mann; and Sheridan, played by Alyssa Gerhardt; are leaving on a second mission to Luneeya.
“Their first stop on the way is space station Q where the fearless leader Kirk Williams, played by Andrew Englund, is suffering from isolation madness,” says Travis.
The crew gets the travel coordinates to head to Luneeya. A few extra terrestrial biological entities played by Gavin Roskamp, Allison Dewald, Kailyn Handyside and Alexis Handyside, board the ship.
When the earthlings land on Luneeya they find things have not gone according to plan. Mastermind Phineas Quinn, played by Ben Morton, and his partner Jillian Lenox, played by Erica Rupp, have plans of their own.
Luneeyan council members have studied Earth people via old 1950s TV sitcoms and have adapted to the 50s way of life “just like the Cleavers.”
“They try peaceful means to deal with this evil threat but Phineas and Jillian don't want to listen until a final twist sends them both packing, but at what price?” says Travis.
Music for the show is by various artists including The Beatles, David Bowie, Queen, Ozzy Ozborne, Metalica and more.
Other cast members are: Rachel Gerhardt, Kayla Davis, Katy Koehler, Ryanne Nason, Brandilee Jarrett, Katie Roskamp, Richlyn Mulch, Maria Briggs, Megan Harrison, Megan Beeler, Alexis Terrell, Jenna Shoup, Jenna Dennis, John Roskamp, Jordan Dewald, Breann Starr, Carly Hamilton, Loren Harrison, Taryn Geissler and Hannah Wolbrink.
Travis directs, is choreographer and light technician. Assistant director is Cathy Murray. Vocal director is Lynn Johnson. Set construction and stage manager is Jeff Thill. Sound technician is Annie Miller. Set design is by Jane Roskamp and Christine Morey.
“This will be our first performing arts event in the newly renovated auditorium,” says Deb Roskamp, Warsaw Fine Arts Booster president. “Our fund-raising for the renovation continues. We have 60 chairs adopted so far.
“We still have work to do, but we have all new, upholstered chairs installed except for a couple of rows in the back. The seats are very comfortable.”
Patrons can adopt a chair for $150 to help with the costs. Donors will be recognized on a wall plaque.
