Seven seeking two supervisor seats

There are four people running to represent District 5 on the Lee County board of Supervisors. The district covers about half of Keokuk, most of it on the north side of town. The incumbent supervisor, George Morgan, has decided not to seek re-election.
The two Republicans on the ballot for the primary Tuesday are Alex Kloster and Mike O'Connor.
Kloster has lived in District 5 his whole life. He is a pastor at the Apostolic Faith United Pentecostal Church and as served as a district youth leader and district board member for the Iowa District UPCI.
Kloster also has interest in the welfare of the younger generation. Along with volunteering at Common Grounds Coffee House in Keokuk, he also serves as vice president of Lee County Chapter of Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parents Association.
He said the county has to continue to watch spending and also continue to foster economic growth.
There are two Democratic candidates for the seat from District 5. Matt Pflug is no stranger to the board of supervisors, having served on the board during 2000-2004.
He is a manager at the Flying J Travel Plaza in Wayland, Mo. Pflug has served on the Little League board and was a board member and president of the Keokuk Catholic Schools and is a Cancer Society board member.
Janet Fife-LaFrenz is another Democrat seeking the fifth district seat. Fife-LaFrenz also is no stranger to public service. She hasn't served on the board of supervisors, but she was on the Keokuk City Council for 16 years and currently serves on the Southeastern Community College board of trustees. She also is the chairperson of the Regional Workforce Investment Board for Southeast Iowa.
Fife-LaFrenz wants to continue to develop Lee County as a place that is good for workers, families and good for business.
She retired from the Keokuk Community School District with 39 years of service and has a masters degree in education and administration.
The Fourth District, which covers the south side of Keokuk and Montrose and Jackson Townships. The two candidates for this district are Gary Folluo and Roger Bryant. Current Fourth District representative on the board, Bob Woodruff, has decided to not run for reelection.
Folluo is a former Keokuk mayor. He is a lifelong resident of Keokuk. He is the general manager of Withers Broadcasting, KOKX Radio in Keokuk. In 2007 he won the employer of the year award by the Keokuk Business and Professional Women organization.
He also has served as a labor representative for the local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers.
Bryant is in his third term on the Keokuk City Council and has been a Keokuk resident for 40 years.
He has worked for Roquette America and its predecessor Hubinger for 39 years. He served as president of the Lee County Labor Council for seven years and is a member of Keokuk Public Library Board, the Keokuk Park and Recreation Advisory Board and is an official for the Hub-Co Credit Union.
Bryant says he wants to work to unite and direct Lee County so it is a better place to work and live.
