Grain bins collapse in Warsaw

WARSAW, Ill. - Ursa Farmers Cooperative in Warsaw, Ill., lost two of its six concrete grain silos to Mississippi River flood waters at about 3 a.m. today.

According to Kathleen Fuller, a grain elevator employee, the silos were filled with soybeans of an undetermined value.

The elevator is the delivery point for grain farmers in the area and stores soybeans, corn and wheat.

The elevator has a riverside location which allows shipping grain by barge to the Gulf of Mexico and points in between.

About 160 barges are filled there each year.

Approximately one million bushels of grain are stored and shipped in a year from Warsaw.

Elevator Manager Truman Phillips was not available by press time.
