John Wood CC offering coaching training program
for the daily gate city
QUINCY, Ill. - American Sport Education Program: Bronze Level Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid will be offered Satuday, Aug. 2 at John Wood Community College in Quincy, Ill. Registrations are being taken. Call the JWCC Community Education Office at 217-641-4905.
The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Room D022 in the Paul Heath Center on the campus at 48th and Harrison streets.
According to a 1990 ruling from the Illinois High School Association, persons who do not possess a current teaching certificate may coach in any IHSA-affiliated Illinois high school if they have passed an IHSA-approved coaching training program. This ASEP Bronze Level Coaching Principles certificate program fulfills that requirement.
The Illinois High School Association uses the ASEP in qualifying high school coaches, and more than 25,000 coaches across the country are credentialed through ASEP annually.
The instructor will be Mike Elbe, JWCC director of student life and athletics and head men's basketball coach. Elbe has earned numerous awards, including five Coach of the Year honors. He also is a past recipient of JWCC's Full-time Professional Staff Member of the Year Award.
The cost is $125 per person. In addition, participants will need to purchase books and exams from the JWCC Bookstore prior to Aug. 2 at an approximate cost of $200.
Lunch is “on your own” or attendees may bring a brown bag lunch.
Advance registration is required a minimum of two business days prior to the class date.
