Local soldier receives bronze star in Iraq

U.S. Army Spc. Will Vance, 24, serving in Iraq since November 2007, was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge in the field for heroic and meritorious achievement in military operations involving conflict with an opposing armed force.
Vance is a Cavalry Scout in an Armored Cavalry Regiment based in Fort Hood, Texas. He is deployed in Iraq until January 2009. He also is a qualified emergency medical technician.
Vance, the son of Dr. John and Diane Vance of Keokuk, is a 2002 graduate of Warsaw High School, Warsaw, Ill. He attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., and enlisted in the army in December 2005.
In recognition of his leadership, Vance also was laterally promoted to the non-commissioned officer rank of Corporal.
