FORT MADISON - The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) set up in Fort Madison at the Rashid Library building closed on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Officials from FEMA and the Small Business Administration had been on hand since July 9, fielding questions from flood victims seeking assistance.
Brand Craine was one of the FEMA representatives at the DRC and said they have stayed busy at the site, but now he wants those still needing assistance to know the FEMA phone number continues taking calls.
People with questions who didn't have the opportunity to visit the DRC can call 1-800-621-FEMA with questions. The hours for the phone line are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays.
R. Gary Colton, a communication specialist with the SBA, said the administration has extended its deadline for homeowners to apply for low interest loans. The new deadline is Sept. 29, adding nearly two months to the previous deadline.
Caine said in Lee County there have been 116 applicants for grants. About $116,000 has been distributed. In Van Buren County there have been 61 applicants with $103,000 distributed. In Des Moines County there are 268 applicants with $388,000 distributed.
For those who would prefer speaking to a FEMA or SBA representative in person, the disaster recovery center at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington is still operating.
