Cooking school coming to Keokuk
For the Daily Gate City
Ask anyone what makes a memorable gathering or party, and you will most likely hear good food, good friends and good conversation. It's an entertaining recipe for success that every host or hostess aspires to achieve. As we gear up for fall activities and end-of-the-year celebrations, many of us will be asking, “What should I make” or “What should I bring?”
Taste of Home Cooking School has fresh ideas for your fall entertaining agenda. Watch culinary specialist Mary Janice Reisdorf prepare 10 party-pleasing dishes at Keokuk High School's Wright Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. The doors will open at 5 p.m.
Each recipe is a winner that will bring compliments and requests to share the recipe, whether you are hosting a party or bringing a dish to pass.
Planning a Sunday brunch? Add “Almost Cream Cheese Buffet” coffeecake to the menu. This make-ahead treat will fill the house with a wonderful yeasty, cinnamon aroma. Bite-sized rolls coated with brown sugar and toasted almonds surround a rich cream cheese filling. Delicious and easy to make with Rhodes Dinner rolls, you are sure to draw rave reviews.
Want an entree that doesn't go overboard on calories and fat? “Fragrant Indian Butter Chicken” will fit the bill. This healthy rendition of a popular ethnic dish goes easy on the butter and cream, yet it's tasty and colorful. Complete the dish with fragrant basmati rice. Basmati rice has been used in India for thousands of years and is now available in the U.S. It is rich in vitamins, especially vitamin B, and has nutlike flavor that complements the chicken. Impress your guests with this healthy, trendy meal.
Don't have time to prepare a dessert? Try “Apple, Dried Cherry and Walnut Compote.” This recipe is tailor-made for today's time-crunched cook. Mixed in a Ziploc Zip ‘n Steam bag and “baked” in the same bag in the microwave, what could be easier? Served warm with vanilla frozen yogurt or angel food cake, it's sure to please.
Have we piqued your interest? Taste of Home Cooking School and the Daily Gate City are excited to host the two-hour cooking demonstration. Every attendee will receive a gift bag with the Taste of Home Cooking School Brand Name Cookbook. This 68-page special issue includes the featured recipes and many more; you'll also find coupons from participating national food companies.
Tickets are on sale at the Daily Gate City, Hy-Vee and County Market in Keokuk as well as the Hancock County Journal-Pilot in Carthage, Ill.
In addition, a special section on the Taste of Home Cooking School will be published in the Daily Gate City on Monday, Sept. 8.

" Headline: Cooking school coming to Keokuk. Actual article: One-time cooking class being hosted in Keokuk. Two entirely different things. "

" How come articles like this never tell you how much the tickets are? So, I called around and they are $10 each., for those who would like to know. Thought I would share and I wish future articles would include ticket prices so we dont tie up the phone lines trying to find out ourselves. "
