Janell Boltz enjoys golf, bowling

Janell Boltz has lived in Keokuk since 1958.

She came to Keokuk from St. Patrick, Mo.

Retired, she is married to Fred Boltz. They will celebrate their 55th anniversary on Aug. 29.

What food are you most famous for? Chicken and stuffing.

What kind of music do you enjoy? Country and Western.

What are your hobbies? Playing golf and bowling.


Do you have a favorite pet (present or past)? Past, several dogs.

Where would you go if you won a trip anywhere in the world and why? Australia. Because I have always wanted to go there.

What has been life's most rewarding experience for you? Having my three children and raising them to be fine young people.

How many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren do you have? Three children, Phil, 54, Laronda, 52 and Kevin, 43; four grandchildren, two boys in Colorado and a boy and girl here in Keokuk.

What is your least favorite food? Olives.

What is your favorite food? Steak and fried chicken.

What makes a perfect summer day and how would you spend it if you could, anyway you wanted? Watching our grandchildren playing baseball and softball.

Have a favorite sport to do or watch? Golf and bowling and watching grandchildren in whatever sport they are playing.

Most memorable moment? When our only granddaughter was born after having three grandsons.

Most famous person(s) you've met? Tom Watson and Tom Kite, (pro golfers) Mickey Gilley and Mel Tillis.

What do you do for fun? Play golf, bowl and watch high school football, baseball and basketball.

What do you like most about yourself? Being faithful to my family and friends.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A nurse.

What do you collect? Frogs.

Where would you live if you had a choice? Right here in Keokuk.

What is your favorite TV show and actor/actress? Reruns of “I Love Lucy” and “The Beverly Hillbillies.” Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett.

If you could have dinner with any three people (living or dead) who would they be? Living - my husband, my mom and dad-(deceased).

What was your favorite subject in school? Math.

What was your first job? Baby sitting.

What was/is your favorite style/piece of clothing? Tank top and shorts in summer, and jeans and shirts in winter.

Best word(s) of advice you've received? Just be yourself.

What is your favorite ethnic food? Chinese.

How did you meet your spouse (if married)? We met at a Easter dance in St. Patrick, Mo.

Person you admire most and why? My husband. Because he has provided so well so I didn't have to work and could raise our children.

If you had a motto, what would it be? “Do unto others as you want them to do unto to you.”

What is your most memorable and/or embarrassing food experience? Cooking Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends.

What is your favorite recipe? Meat stuffed peppers.

Meat stuffed peppers

Ingredients:

8 green peppers

1 small onion (chopped)

1 lb. ground beef

2 tablespoons oil

4 medium tomatoes (chopped)

1 1/2 cup cut, fresh corn

(three or four ears)

Salt and pepper

2-3 tablespoons sugar

Directions:

Remove tops and seeds from green peppers, parboil five minutes; drain.

Brown onions and ground beef in hot oil. Add tomatoes, corn and seasonings.

Stuff peppers and top with cheddar cheese. Stand upright in greased 11 x 7 x 1 1/2-inch baking dish; add small amount of water. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until cheese is brown.

Makes 8 servings.
