NAUVOO, Ill. - The Tri-State Development Summit Tourism Task Force recently completed a collective tourism brochure for the 35 counties in the Summit region.

“Mid West River Country, Experience the Tri-State of Mind” is a visitors' guide to attractions and events in Southeast Iowa, Northeast Missouri and Western Illinois.

The brochure is a tool for communities throughout the Tri-States to promote themselves as a travel destination regionally.

According to Jeanene Dean, executive director of tourism in Nauvoo and representative with the Tri-State Tourism Task Force, “this collaborative effort reiterates the ongoing work being done over the Tri-State boundaries that have in the past defined us.

“We are working hard to promote ourselves as a region with broad appeal through a regional marketing strategy and this piece does it nicely.”

The project completion is timely as gas prices rise and travelers find themselves vacationing closer to home.

The brochure will be a resource for people from St. Louis to Springfield, Ill., to Des Moines in planning summer and fall getaway plans.

More than 20 communities are featured in the brochure.

The brochures are available by request through the Tri-State Development Summit at 217-223-8380 or at the Nauvoo Tourism Office, 877-NAUVOO-1, www.beautifulnauvoo.com.

Communities and counties featured are (by state):

n Illinois - Nauvoo, Galesburg, Monmouth, Jacksonville, Macomb, Quincy, Brown County and Pike County.

n Iowa - Fairfield, Villages of Van Buren (Van Buren County), Henry County, Fort Madison, Burlington and Keokuk.

n Missouri - Kirksville, Canton, Hannibal, Louisiana and Mark Twain Lake.

Contact the Nauvoo Tourism Office for more information.
