CARTHAGE, Ill. - Lola Mae Shoup, 88, of Carthage, Ill., died Saturday morning, Aug. 23, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Ill.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1920, near St. Mary's/Plymouth, Ill., the daughter of Roy and Adelia Esther Wier Sellars.
She married Fred David Shoup Sr. on Dec. 22, 1951, in Carthage. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1997.
Lola had formerly lived near Plymouth and in Bentley, Ill.
She was a faithful Christian and member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage where she was Sunday School secretary/treasurer and member of the Helen D. A'boy Mission Circle.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who loved both the Bible and helping others.
She enjoyed music, poetry, flowers and birds, especially cardinals. She worked beside her husband in the family business and gardening.
Survivors include: three children, Blanche Shoup of Galesburg, Ill., Fred David Shoup Jr. and his wife, Eileen, of Warsaw, Ill., and Barbara Raabe and her husband, Jim, of Jacksonville, Ill.; three grandchildren, James Raabe of Macomb, Ill., and Caitlin and Jenna Shoup, both of Warsaw; three sisters, Hazel and Irene Sellars of Plymouth and Florene Howe and her husband, Lyle, of Havana, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Esther Sellars of Augusta, Ill., a brother-in-law, Otis “Jerry” Howe of Plymouth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Glen Sellars; and a sister, Lucille Howe.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, with burial to follow in the St. Mary Cemetery, St. Mary, Ill.
Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established. Memorials may be sent in care of Printy Funeral Home, 405 Cherry St., Carthage, IL 62321.
