UPDATE: One person dies in Wednesday morning accident
A two-vehicle crash between a semi and a passenger car Wednesday morning at the intersection of the U.S. Highway 61 Bypass and Carbide Lane resulted in the death of an area resident.
The identification of the victim will not be released until all next of kin notifications have been made, said Keokuk Police Chief Tom Crew.
Crew said the tanker was traveling southbound on the U.S. 61 Bypass when the passenger car pulled from Carbide Lane into the semi's path.
The accident occurred on rain slick roads and was reported at about 9:52 a.m.
Lee County EMS called for the Jaws of Life, which were brought to the scene by the Keokuk Fire Department. A second shift of firefighters was called in to staff the station but was later recalled.
There were no other passengers involved, and no citations were issued.
The Keokuk Police Department, Lee County Sheriff's Office and Iowa Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
The crash is under investigation.
