Southeast Iowa Regional Airport to host Burlington Regional Air Show
BURLINGTON - The Southeast Iowa Regional Airport (SIRA) will host the 2008 Burlington Regional Air Show featuring the Aerostars, a precision aerobatic demo team based in Carey, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The show begins at 6:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast and will last until 4 p.m. Admission is free.
The Aerostars will hold two shows, at 11:45 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The three-pilot team performs aerobatics flown in tight formation, inverted maneuvers and breakaways followed by opposing passes. The team flies three Romanian Aerostar Yak-52TWs, former Soviet designed WWII-type aerobatic trainers.
Attendees also will be able to experience other aircraft, from a Medforce Medical helicopter to gliders.
Two airplanes, a Lockheed C-130 Hercules from the Peoria, Ill., Air National Guard as well as a L29 Russian Jet, will be on the ground and available for tours.
An unusual craft, a KC-10 Extender, a military refueling plane, will fly over the airport performing maneuvers.
The air show also will host other aviation-related activities and booths.
To experience what it is like to fly, a jet flight simulator will be available for adult use.
For those who want to take to the air, AM Air Service will be offering helicopter rides for $40 per person.
