News from Wall Street keeping you from travel? Have you had to cancel that trip to Las Vegas, Chicago or New York?

Book a date to Keokuk's Grand Theatre Saturday and enjoy appearances from Elvis, Sonny and Cher, Barbra Streisand, Patsy Cline, Queen Latifah, John Lennon, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt and more.

The Grand Theatre Commission is sponsoring an “American Icon Review” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to provide the community with a glimpse of the Grand's history - the days when the Grand Theatre was the center for the performing arts and the mecca for stars of the era.

These personalities will be brought to life on the Grand's stage by talented locals singing the songs that made the stars famous. Scheduled to perform are Randy Whitaker and Linda Tracy of Hamilton, Ill., Justin Tuck, Tamela LaFoe, Shannon Zetterlund, Tina Fox and Dr. John Vance of Keokuk, Chenille Sanders of Carthage, Ill., Shelley Travis of Warsaw, Ill., and more.

There are three categories of ticket prices:

n A $50 per person VIP ticket includes preferred seating, T-shirt and an after-show wine and dessert/coffee along with meet and greet the “stars.”

n Regular advance tickets are $10.

n Tickets at the door Saturday will be $15.

Advanced tickets can be purchased at Keaslings, the Chamber of Commerce, Courtyard Books, from any commission member or by calling the Grand Theatre at 524-1026.

The production also is a fund-raiser for the Grand Theatre, 26 N. Sixth St., Keokuk.

“The Grand Theatre Commission has not sponsored a fund-raising event in three years,” said Pat Kemp, commission member. “We hope the public will go ‘all out' to support ‘American Icon Review.'

“This summer, the main floor air-conditioning unit quit functioning and needs to be replaced. Because of this very costly project, additional funds need to be raised.

“The residents of the Tri-State Area have always been willing to support the activities at the Grand,” added Kemp. “We hope they will continue to do so by purchasing tickets and attending the show.”

Keokuk Y-Net is hosting a pre-show party beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Mr. Lucky's across the street from the Grand Theatre. Admission to the party is $5 and includes refreshments.
