Chargers crush Beardstown
CARTHAGE, Ill. - The Illini West Chargers, ranked second in Class 3A, rolled to a 77-0 win over Beardstown Friday in a West Prairie Trail Conference Southwest Division game.
Illini West scored six touchdowns in the first quarter. Quarterback Michael Lafferty completed touchdown passes of 33 yards to Travis Wilson, 14 and 17 yards to Jacob Schmudlach, 50 yards to Mitch Beals and one yard to Stefan Flynn in the opening quarter. Beals also scored on a 28-yard run.
The Chargers added four more touchdowns in the second quarter for a 69-0 lead. Lafferty scored on an 11-yard run. Drake Schmudlach had a seven-yard touchdown run. Chris Corzatt scored on a 28-yard run, and Seth Pilkington returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown.
Dylan Pollock finished the scoring with a 34-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Lafferty was 8-of-14 passing for 193 yards. He also ran for 50 yards on three carries. Jacob Schmudlach had four receptions for 69 yards.
Pollock led the Chargers with 71 yards rushing on six carries. Avery LeJeune added 48 yards on nine carries.
Wilson had two receptions for 33 yards, while Beals, Flynn and Zach Burling each had one reception.
Illini West held Beardstown to 55 total yards and forced three turnovers. Andy Boyer and Derek Van Fleet each recovered a fumble to go with Pilkington's interception return. Tim Yex had six solo and three assisted tackles. Three of the tackles were for a loss.
Illini West, 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the division, hosts Petersburg PORTA Friday to end the regular season.
