Chargers crush C-SE in playoff opener
CARTHAGE, Ill. - The Illini West Chargers rolled to a 55-7 win over Central-Southeastern in the opening round of the Illinois Class 3A football playoffs Friday.
Central-Southeastern scored the first points of the game and led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, but Illini West dominated the second quarter with 43 points to take control of the contest.
Quarterback Michael Lafferty ran for 93 yards on six carries, including a 56-yard touchdown run. He also completed all three of his passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns.
Stefan Flynn rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. Drake Schmudlach added 105 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Mitch Beals gained 52 yards on eight carries. Avery LeJeune rushed for 42 yards and one touchdown on nine carries. Dillon Pollock had a carry for six yards, and Chris Corzatt gained one yard on one carry.
Travis Wilson added a 27-yard touchdown reception. Jacob Schmudlach caught an 18-yard touchdown pass, and Flynn had a catch for 17 yards.
The Illini West forced five turnovers. Heath Knowles, Corzatt, Zack Burling and Brett Cook each had an interception, while Drake Schmudlach recovered a fumble. Derek Van Fleet led the defense in tackles.
Illini West will host Macomb in the second round.
