Shuman scores 16 in exhibition against Iowa
IOWA CITY - The Iowa women's basketball team defeated Quincy University 88-57 Sunday in an exhibition game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The game was tied at 35 early in the second half, and Iowa only had a 41-40 lead until a 22-2 run allowed the Hawkeyes to pull away.
Wendy Ausdemore had 18 points, while Megan Skouby added 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead Iowa. Kristi Smith scored 14 points, Nicole VanderPol recorded 12 points and nine rebounds, and Kachine Alexander finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Jessica Keller led Quincy with 20 points and four assists. Courtney Shuman, a sophomore from Kahoka, Mo., added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshmen Daryle Goldie and Kassidy Shuman, both graduates of Clark County High School, also played in the contest. Goldie had three points and an assist, while Shuman grabbed one rebound.
Saturday, Quincy University put a scare into Drake University before falling 67-62 in the Knapp Center in Des Moines.
The Lady Hawks held a lead as late as nine minutes left in the game against their NCAA Division I foe before Drake was able to pull away.
Quincy led by as many as six points in the second half, but the Bulldogs used a 12-2 run to take the lead for good.
Janette Burgin scored 23 points to lead Quincy. Keller added 15 points.
Courtney Shuman finished with five points and six rebounds in 14 minutes.
Lauren Dybing had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Drake. Jordann Plummer added 12 points.
