A Keokuk resident was charged Friday in connection to a theft of money from her employer.
Marisa L. McCune, 35, 111 N. Fifth St., was arrested at 11:11 a.m. Friday at the police station for first-degree theft, a Class C felony. She was taken to the South Lee County Courthouse in Keokuk for her initial court appearance.
According to court records, McCune, was employed as a bookkeeper at Westride Mechanical Contracting, a business owned by Jeff Vollbracht.
Vollbracht asked McCune about a check but said she did not have the register for the checking account, according to court documents.
Becoming suspicious, Vollbracht went to his banks, KSB Bank and First Community Bank, where he found that two unauthorized checks were written directly to McCune.
Investigators were told the checks were written to McCune and stamped with Vollbracht's signature without his permission, according to court documents.
Vollbracht had his checking account records audited and found unauthorized checks written by McCune for a total of $23,559, court records show.
She was released after paying $24,000 bond pending a later court appearance.
