KHS swimmers compete at state
MARSHALLTOWN - The Keokuk Chiefs competed in four events at the IGHSAU State Swim Meet Saturday at the Marshalltown Community YMCA Pool.
Junior Nicki McDowell had Keokuk's top finish. She placed 13th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.35.
West Des Moines Valley's Danielle Harris set a new record at the state meet with a time of 56.15. Mason City's Courtney Busch, last year's state champion in the event, took second with a time of 58.03.
Senior Alicia Logan finished 16th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.81 and 17th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.60.
Stephanie Koch of Ames, won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.67, and Des Moines Valley's Becca Leffler finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.69.
Beckah Swan, McDowell, Haley Fuller and Logan finished 22nd in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.39. West Des Moines Valley won the relay with a time of 1:36.76.
West Des Moines Valley won the team title with 316 points. Cedar Falls was second with 201 points. Keokuk finished 29th.
