Quincy tops WIU
MACOMB, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team finished off their 2008-09 exhibition play with a 74-61 win on the road over Western Illinois University Saturday.
The Lady Hawks held Western Illinois to just 29 first-half points and pulled away in the second-half for the win.
Western Illinois opened the game up with a 7-0 run and held a 13-point lead in the first-half before got back into the game with the three-point ball. Quincy knocked down five first-half three-pointers and held a 30-29 lead at the break. The Lady Hawks continued their hot hand in the second-half, finishing the game with 12 three-pointers.
Quincy was led by Janette Burgin's 19 points while Jessica Keller and Alex Roznowski each added 15 points. Keller added nine assists and four steals in the game.
Three Clark County High School graduates earned playing time in the win. Sophomore Courtney Shuman started the game at forward and finished the game with four points and six rebounds. Freshmen Daryle Goldie and Kassidy Shuman each played but did not score.
The Lady Hawks open up their 2008-09 season on Saturday at home against Saginaw Valley State University in the Quincy/Subway Tip-Off Tournament. Game time is set for 5:15 p.m.
