Catholics, Methodists face off in softball fundraiser
CARTHAGE, Ill. - Local Catholics and Methodists proved that a little religious rivalry could be a good thing when they hosted two Saturday, Sept. 6, softball games to raise funds for Memorial Hospital.
The contest raised $427.50 for the ongoing Capital Campaign.
“The softball games were a fun way to accomplish a serious goal - raising funds for the new hospital,” said the Rev. Bill Pyatt, pastor of First United Methodist.
“It's so exciting to see the public getting involved and hosting these types of fundraising events,” said Memorial Hospital CEO Ada Bair. “We really appreciate the efforts of everyone who has supported this project.”
The new hospital is expected to open in the summer of 2009. The facility will cost approximately $25 million, with $4 million to be raised through the capital campaign drive.
Memorial Hospital is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and receives no tax dollars. All capital campaign contributions are tax deductible as prescribed by law. For more information or a pledge card, call Shelly Fox at 217-357-6562 or Ada Bair at 217-357-6566.
