Lambourne Diving Company plans to move city's water intake to its new location at the coal docks

The Warsaw City Council renewed its insurance with Illinois Counties Risk Management Company.

Agent Mike McCaughey attended the meeting Monday and explained the premium would be $34,806, up $2,200 or 7 percent from last year.

Mayor Robert Frank, City Clerk Kathy Thompson and several council members asked McCaughey to check the policy and make sure several items were taken off as had been requested and if they had been, to see why the premium increased.

Council members agreed to put 25 percent down and pay the rest of the premium in six installments.

Assistant Street Superintendent Randy Tripp said street crews hauled dirt from the campground and started ditch work.

The salt and cinders are mixed and snow plows are ready to go.

“Have you thought about moving the salt and cinders away from the river due to salt's increased price?” asked council member Sue Miller.

The city lost its salt stockpile when the Mississippi River flooded in late June and early July.

Tripp said the street department does not have any other building large enough for the salt and hasn't moved it.

Water Department Superintendent Buddy Samuels said Guy Asbury of Lambourne Diving Company plans to move the city's water intake to its new location at the coal docks soon. The job is estimated to take 20 days from the start date and will not exceed $78,058.

The city submitted an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for $78,058 to move the intake after it was rendered useless by the Mississippi River flood this spring.

Lambourne is allowing the city to use a pump and generator until the project is complete. The primary pump also failed because of the flood.

In other business the city council learned:

n The next city council meeting is at 6 p.m., Dec. 22.

n Mediacom announced it will cease operating its Mojo channel.

n The Bubba Dicks scholarship fundraiser is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Warsaw High School.

n The city has the money to pay for its general obligation bonds and may not tax for more. City council members unanimously approved abating the tax levy to pay the principal and interest this year.
