Kahoka mayor dies at age 70

KAHOKA, Mo. - Charles Butler, 70, mayor of the City of Kahoka, Mo., died Friday at his home.
He had served as mayor since 2003.
He was a member of the Northeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission.
He was appointed by Gov. Matt Blunt to the Missouri Horse Racing Commission in May.
He had been in the harness racing industry for 30 years. He had served as a presiding judge at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona for eight years.
He raced in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and Kentucky and announced harness races at Pari-Mutual in Kentucky. He also was a presiding judge in Chicago at Balmoral Park and state fairs in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa.
In earlier years, he operated the Kahoka Roller Rink and Butler Super Valu. He was an area lineman for Lewis County R.E.C., retiring in 2001.
He graduated from Kahoka High School.
He enjoyed giving back to the community through his volunteer efforts.
He officiated basketball games for more than 25 years and announced all Clark County R-1 sports and supported efforts in the community, church and schools.
He was a member of the Kahoka United Methodist Church and a former Mason and Shriner.
He married Evelyn Ladwig on Dec. 18, 2007, in Kahoka. She survives.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating.
Burial will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation is today at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
