WEST POINT - A Fort Madison man was was seriously injured Thursday in a vehicle-bicycle accident.
Duff T. Powell, 21, Fort Madison, was standing with his bicycle at Lee County Road 103 at the crest of a hill near the intersection of 165th Street about one mile east of West Point when the westbound vehicle driven by Thomas J. Raines, 31, West Point struck Powell and his bike.
Bradley Stuekerjuergen, 47, also westbound on County Road 103 behind Raines, was unable to take evasive action and hit the Raines vehicle in the rear, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Powell was taken from the scene by AirEvac and flown to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
Stuekerjuergen and a passenger, Bonny Stuekerjuergen, were take nto the Fort Madison Community Hospital by Lee County EMS. They were treated and released.
Raines also was taken to FMCH by ambulance and later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals by ambulance.
The West Point Police Department, West Point Fire and Rescue also assisted at the scene.
