WARSAW, Ill. – Rachel Caroline Herzog Baldwin, 90, of Warsaw, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Montebello Health Care Center in Hamilton, Ill.

She was born on March 5, 1922, the daughter of John Henry Herzog Jr. and Anna Elizabeth Jingst Herzog in Lima Township, Ill.

She married Paul Woodruff Baldwin on Oct. 3, 1943, in Wayland, Mo. He preceded her in death.

Rachel graduated from Mendon Township High School and attended Gem City College in Quincy, Ill. She had worked many places throughout the area, including Kreskies Drug Store, Electric Storage/Warsaw Battery Factory in Warsaw, Drydens/Sheller Globe in Keokuk, Dadant in Hamilton and most recently at the Carson Shelter Care Home in Warsaw.

She was a member of Warsaw Presbyterian Church.

Rachel was a generous, loving, motherly woman who often opened her heart and home to family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and animals, especially dogs and cats. She loved cooking for and visiting with family and friends. She also was active in genealogy, researching family history over many generations.

She is survived by a son, Alan Paul (Annette) Baldwin of Darlington, Wis.; two nephews, Daryl Ronald Herzog and Darwin Roger Herzog of California; and a niece, Marla Ann Herzog of Warsaw.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul W. Baldwin in September 1990; and a brother and sister-in-law, Donald Roswell and Elaine Herzog.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, with family meeting friends between 5 and 8 p.m. at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home of Warsaw.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Warsaw Presbyterian Church, Warsaw, with the Rev. Sue Loper officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw.

Memorials have been established for West Hancock Canine Rescue.
