SUTTER, Ill. – George William Clark, 91, of Sutter, Ill., passed away at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1924, a son of Raymond and Sophie Mensendick Clark.

George married Bernice Mae Buckert on Dec. 20, 1947, in Sutter. She survives in Sutter.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Mary) Clark of Hamilton, Ill., and Fredrick (Karen) Clark of Bartonville, Ill.; a daughter, Janet La Polla (partner Douglas Albee) of Riverside, Calif.; brother, Paul Clark of Washington, Ill.; two sisters, Freida Sibert of Sun City, Ariz., and Alveria Roberts of St. Joseph, Mo.; grandson, Janun Mills (Kody Ostrander) of Hamilton; granddaughter, Sheena Clark (Matt Dodds)of Hamilton; four great-grandsons, James Dodds and Damyen, Daryen and Drayton Mills; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Clark; sisters, Delores Mitts and Glennadene Brown; and brothers, Raymond and Harold Lee Clark.

George attended West Point High School and then worked for his uncle until being drafted in the military. He went into the Navy with his best friend Clyde Luft during World War II.

George met Bernice while they were roller-skating and quickly fell in love. After they got married, he began farming and raising cattle.

George worked at Electric Metals in Keokuk, retiring in May 1986. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the Credit Union. George enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never met a stranger.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Hamilton, with Dr. Richard Leonard officiating.

Burial with full military honors by the Macomb National Guard Funeral Honors Team will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his memory.
