Basketball standout Bill Heisler is among IHSA'a ‘100 Legends'

Warsaw High School 1997 graduate Bill Heisler will be honored and presented as one of the Illinois High School Association's &#8220100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament” on the Ball of Fame Tour.

The ceremony will take place during half-time of the Wildcat basketball game against Payson Saturday at WHS.

The junior varsity game begins at 6 p.m. and the varsity game will begin around 7:30 p.m.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is home to America's original March Madness and 2007 marks the 100th anniversary of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament. The IHSA Basketball Tournament is the longest running high school association tournament in the country.

As part of the of the Century of Memories Celebration the IHSA asked fans to vote for the top 100 legends of the IHSA Basketball Tournament.

Heisler was voted as one of the first 82 legends in an online election that ran from November through March. The remaining 18 legends were selected by a blue-ribbon committee.

During Saturday's ceremony, Heisler will be signing the Ball of Fame and adding his name to the others selectees' signatures.

Kurt Gibson is the official IHSA representative attending the ceremony in Warsaw. He will have a display booth in the lobby, displaying moments of IHSA basketball and copies of the new IHSA publication &#8220100 Years of Madness.”

Heisler is described in this publication: &#8220Plucky guard was leader of Warsaw's surprising champions in 1997 . . . scored 114 points with 19 assists in four games . . . unloaded in overtime title contest against Spring Valley Hall, ringing up 36 points including six 3-pointers . . . in four tourney games made 16 of 27 3-point attempts (59 percent) . . . played college ball at Western Illinois University.”

Heisler's autograph will be added to the Ball of Fame that already includes the likes of Hall of Famer Isaiah Thomas, Duke signee and All-Stater from Glenbrook North, Jon Scheyer, as well as 2004 Mr. Basketball from Peoria Central and NBA first-round pick for the L.A. Clippers, Shaun Livingston.

These and the rest of the Living Legends signatures will be added to the Ball of Fame during the tour leading up to the 2007 tournament.

Raffle tickets can be purchased for chances to win this ball.

All of the 100 legends also will be recognized at a special ceremony during the 2007 tournament in March in Peoria, Ill.
